In 2006 New York passed Direct Access legislation, which allows patients to receive care from a licensed Physical Therapist without a physician referral. This will allow patients to come directly to County Physical Therapy and be treated for a maximum of 10 visits or 30 days, whichever comes first.
Note: We recommend that you contact your insurance company directly to ask if Direct Access is covered under your plan.
If your insurance is Medicare, Medicaid-Managed Plans, No Fault, or Workers Compensation you are not eligible for Direct Access. These insurances require a prescription for Physical Therapy from their physician, physician’s assistant, or nurse practitioner.
